Tennessee FFA Association - State Officers - Secretary

Secretary

Name:   Rachel Hendrix
Home Chapter:   Hendersonville FFA Chapter in Hendersonville, Tennessee
SAE:
Diversified Horticulture. I have experience in nursery production, landscaping, and floriculture.
Favorite CDE:
I love the Nursery/Landscape CDE. I joined that team my freshman year, and worked hard to learn all of the plants, tools, diseases, insects, and facts. In the spring of my sophomore year, my team won the state competition and advanced to the national level, where we placed in the gold category. Through Nursery/Landscape, I learned not only horticultural skills, which introduced me to a possible career choice, but also speaking and personal skills that improved my self confidence.
How You Got Involved In The FFA:
My first experiences in the FFA involved a very young me attending the local Beech FFA Chapter Banquets when my grandmother was the principal at Beech High School. Back then, I always wondered why the people were wearing the funny blue coats. When I got to high school, however, I joined the FFA for the Horse Judging CDE, although I wasn't any good at it. After that, I started doing the Creed CDE, and the rest is history.
Most Influential Role Model:
I would have to say that my most influential role model is my advisor's daughter. She was a state officer my sophomore year, and she really drove me to do the best I could, and was always there to help me when I needed advice.
Future Plans:
I will be studying Public Horticulture at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville this fall as a freshman.
Message To The Greenhand Members:
Don't be afraid to get involved and to try new things. Also, never stop dreaming, and never stop setting new goals for yourself. You can go further than you ever believed.
If You Could Travel Anywhere In The World:
I'd love to visit Egypt. I have always enjoyed studying Egyptian history and culture, and I would like to see the temples and pyramids some day.
