| SAE: | |||||
| My SAE is in the area of Equine Science with an emphasis on scientific research. My family now owns almost 50 equine (horses, donkeys, and mules) and around 40 Polled Hereford cattle that live on the 200 acre farm that has been in my family for at least 5 generations. I enjoy performing various types of experiments to determine which parasite control methods are best for the animals involved in our operation. | |||||
| Favorite CDE: | |||||
| I equally enjoyed the Prepared Public Speaking and Job Interview CDEs. Prepared Public Speaking allowed me to thoroughly study and explain issues affecting something most dear to my heart - agriculture. In Job Interview, I developed skills that will not only help me to find a suitable job but also give me the ability to more easily climb the lifetime career ladder. | |||||
| How You Got Involved In The FFA: | |||||
| To me, agriculture is not a hobby or a pastime but a way of life. While growing up on the family farm, I learned to love all of God's creations and the many benefits we are fortunate to receive from them. During the summer following my eighth grade year, I attended FFA camp. There, I fell in love with this organization and all that it had to offer its members. I was so excited that I had the FFA creed memorized before I even began high school! | |||||
| Most Influential Role Model: | |||||
| I have to say that my dad is the most influential person in my life. He may not be the biggest financial success I know, but he has had a significant impact on the world. Dad has made a difference in the lives of almost all of his students, something I hope to be able to do when I follow in his footsteps and become a high school agriculture teacher. | |||||
| Future Plans: | |||||
| I am currently attending The University of Tennessee at Knoxville where I am majoring in Agricultural Education as a McClanahan Scholar. I hope to someday teach vocational agriculture in a high school in Tennessee. I also dream of someday owning my own farm where I will continue to enjoy horses, donkeys, mules, and Polled Hereford cattle. | |||||
| Message To The Greenhand Members: | |||||
| Take full advantage of EVERY opportunity given to you and you WILL succeed. Put your whole heart into EVERYTHING you do. You will never know how much you are capable of doing until you put your best foot forward. | |||||
| If You Could Travel Anywhere In The World: | |||||
| I can honestly say that there is no other place in the world that I love as much as I love home. If I had the opportunity to travel anywhere, though, I would go to the Grand Canyon. It has been a dream of mine for quite some time to ride a mule to the bottom of the canyon! | |||||
