Tennessee FFA Association - State Officers - East TN Vice-President

East TN Vice-President

Name:   Michelle Mullins
Home Chapter:   McMinn Central FFA Chapter
SAE:

I have a three part SAE which involves an equine placement at a local boarding stables where I care for four horses, a school lab program that includes caring for my show heifers and hogs as well as bottle calves, and an agricultural education part where I make phone calls, write letters and emails, and make sure that our chapter's FFA members have the information they need provided to them .
Favorite CDE:
My favorite CDE would be Job Interview. I first competed in this CDE in the Cherokee District my sophomore year. Although I did not move on to the Eastern Region contest until the next year, I learned to be comfortable being myself in front of people that I normally would not meet more than once. I continued to compete in this CDE because every time I competed, I learned something new and different. My junior year I moved from district, to region, then to state, and Nationals where I placed fourth. Every CDE that I have had the opportunity to compete in has transformed me into who I am today.

How You Got Involved In The FFA:
My high school holds a banquet a few weeks before school starts, and while I was visiting my Agriscience class, my future advisor, Kathryn Ingram, introduced me to Horse Judging. I fell in love immediately and have participated in all activities opened to me ever since.
Most Influential Role Model:
My advisor Kathryn Ingram is one of my most influencial role models. From the first day I walked into an agricultural class, she has gotten me involved in EVERYTHING! She taught me that hard work really does pay off, responsibililty is a good thing, and that setting yours goals higher motivates you to reach for the stars. Mrs. Ingram introduced me to FFA and agriculture, and through her guidence, I have grown from a less confident freshman into the person I am today. For these reasons, she is one of my most influencial role models.
Future Plans:
I plan to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in the fall and major in Animal Sciences Communications.
Message to Greenhand members:
Expand your horizons and participate in everything that becomes available to you. FFA can transform you from the person you are today into the person that you have always wanted to become if you let it. Get active, and HAVE FUN!
If You Could Travel Anywhere In The World:
I would travel to Australia because they have largest variety of wildlife species and animal populations. I would love to learn about the different animals that live there!
