  • Describe your SAE:
My SAE includes beef cattle and forage production along with agritourism. I work at Woolfolk Farms in Jackson, TN with a herd of 200 registered Polled Hereford Cattle and F1 Black Baldies. I am manager of the show barn, assistant manager of the cow herd and assistant manager of the Hybrid Bermuda, haylage, and custom hay operation.  The month of October we operate a corn maze, petting zoo, square hay maze, round roll maze, and many other activities to help educate the public about agriculture  as they have fun out on the farm. While in school at TTU, I continue my love of working with cattle and hay at the TTU Oakley Farm and Spring Oak Farm in Cookeville.

    What is your favorite CDE:
My favorite CDE is  Prepared Public speaking. When I joined FFA, I never dreamed that I would be capable of giving an introduction of myself, much less a 6-8 minute speech. After hard work and dedication I became fairly good at speaking. I enjoy writing speeches and love the challenge of finding just the right way to present the speech so that it shows my passion for the topic and keeps everyone interested. Making it to the top two finalists in the state in 2010 and giving my speech on stage at state convention was a thrilling experience.

    Most memorable FFA Moment:
The most memorable FFA moment I can think of occurred after I graduated. While in my fall semester of my freshman year of college, a younger FFA member still in high school contacted me wanting advice. She wanted to know which contest she could do since the contest she wanted to enter was already being done by an upper classman.  After talking with her, she decided what contest she now wanted to do. She actually ended up doing really well in the regional contest. I have had countless people help me along the way and just by being able to help one other person, I feel like I can make a difference. I am always more than glad to help anyone out.

    Who is your role model?
I cannot pick just one, but they are both in the same family. John and Scott Woolfolk have made THE difference in my life. Scott is a full time farmer. He manages the family farm in Jackson. I started working for Woolfolk farms in June of 2006. Scott and his father John have done more than I could ever write down for me. They have taken me in as one of the family. Scott is like a Daddy to me and Mr. Johnny, my Granddaddy. They both have helped me excel in showing cattle and farming. They both saw something special in me and pushed me to be the best I could be. I love them and the rest of the Woolfolk family more than words can say.

    What are your career plans?
After graduating from TTU with a degree in Agricultural Business, I hope to be accepted into law school to pursue a career in Agricultural Law. I hope to be able to build up my own herd of registered Hereford cattle. My plan is to be able to raise a productive and efficient cattle operation and stay involved on the show circuit by showing and selling prospective show cattle.

What advice would you give to a greenhand?
I recommend you trying everything you can. You will not know what you really like until you try. I am a beef cattle person and I got involved in dairy judging my freshmen year. It was completely out of my comfort zone, but I discovered I liked doing it. I also learned that I was a pretty good public speaker and prepared public speaking was my favorite contest. As long as freshman try things out and get involved, they will find something that is just right for them.
