Tennessee State Star Guidelines
These State Star Guidelines are to assist the candidate and FFA advisor(s) in preparation for participation in the Tennessee FFA State Stars Program. If you have any questions concerning theses guidelines, contact the State FFA Office.
Requirement for Regional Star Candidates
- Star Greenhand – Submit in triplicate a completed Tennessee Star Greenhand Application to your regional coordinator by the required deadline
- All other State Candidates must check the appropriate box on the Tennessee State FFA Degree Application. This application must be submitted in duplicate by the required regional deadline.
- Regional Star Candidates will be ranked in preliminary order by a committed of teachers present during the State Degree evaluation process. The top three candidates will be visited within two-weeks to verify SAE program and records. Upon completion of the regional visits, the Regional Stars will be named for each area.
Requirements for State Star Candidates
- Each Regional Star Candidate will be visited for the State Star Selection within three weeks after being selected as a Regional Star.
- Each Regional Star and Regional Star Greenhand must construct a table top display to highlight their SAE Program in the Hall of Star at the State FFA Convention. This booth will need to be set-up before 9:00 AM on the first day of the State FFA Convention.
- Regional Stars must provide a Star Script and ten to twelve slide/pictures to Melissa Burniston by March 1.
Description of Tennessee Star Areas
State Star Farmer
Outstanding achievement in a production agriculture SAE and active participation in the FFA is recognized with the State Star Farmer award. Each year, state associations select one member from the top applicants for the State FFA Degree. This application must be an Entrepreneurship SAE.
State Star in Agribusiness
The top applicant for the State FFA Degree in agribusiness in each association is recognized as the State Star in Agribusiness. This application must be an Entrepreneurship SAE.
State Star in Agricultural Placement
The State FFA Degree recipient, who has excelled in an agricultural placement SAE, either at an agribusiness or production enterprise, will be awarded the State Star in Agricultural Placement. The recipient will also show active involvement in FFA, school and community activities. This application must be a Placement SAE.
State Star in Agriscience
The State FFA Degree recipient who has excelled in an Agriscience-based SAE (natural resources, research/experimentation or science-based directed lab) who has demonstrated outstanding involvement in FFA, school and community activities will be awarded the State Star in Agriscience. This application must be an Entrepreneurship, Placement, Research or Experimentation SAE.
State Star Greenhand Award
The State Star Greenhand recipient who has excelled during the 9th Grade who has demonstrated outstanding involvement in FFA, school and community activities in addition to implementing a quality SAE program will be awarded the State Star Greenhand. This application must be an Entrepreneurship, Placement, Research, Experimentation, or Exploratory SAE.
